Ellen Reichart
About the Artist

Ellen Reichart is a multi-media artist whose inspiration comes from her reverence for nature, relationships, and universal patterns that connect.

Reichart works from memory and allows her dream images and daily surroundings to merge in her art.    She creates in a variety of media and often integrates found organic materials in her works.  Plants from her gardens or bordering beaches often find their way into the layers of her art.  She is drawn to the ever-changing light patterns and tidal exchanges in the Pacific Northwest as well as the progression of decay, undergrowth and renewal in nature.

Though most of Reichart’s recent works are monotypes, (one time prints) she will often run the same paper through the press numerous times, adding or removing inks, hand drawn shapes or natural materials to the plate each time to create subtle layers and depth.   The sensitivity of applied colors, texture, and vibrations in her art often invoke a meditative state both haunting and peaceful.

Reichart has experimented with artistic expression from the time she was a toddler and painted her surroundings with plum baby food.   She remembers her Kindergarten teacher removing her from the art area and telling her that she couldn’t just paint all day.   Art and nature has always been an integral part of her world, from her roots in Wisconsin on Lake Michigan to her studio on the Puget Sound.

Reichart has shown extensively in the Northwest and was a recipient of the Centrum foundation Artists in Residency Program.  She studied at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and has collaborated with artists, poets, dancers, musicians and performing arts groups creating set design and working on thematic projects.  She was an original member of Art Dialogue and is currently a member of West Sound Printmakers.  Her work is in private collections in the United States, British Columbia and Europe.
